Multiple mentions in the top ten for the Lancemore Group in the Annual Luxury Travel Magazine Gold List Awards

For the third year running, the Lancemore Group was nominated in multiple categories for the prestigious Luxury Travel Magazine Gold List Awards, with the Mansion Hotel and Lindenderry at Red Hill making finalists, and ranking four times in the top ten across a number of categories.

The “Gold List” Awards are the result of the most comprehensive luxury travel survey ever undertaken by an Australian magazine, and they are widely viewed as Australia’s premier luxury travel awards. Tens of thousands of subscribers and readers are asked to nominate the world’s best hotels, resorts, spas, cruise lines, golf courses, airlines and destinations – across 34 categories.

This year, the Lancemore Group nominations included;

  • Best Australian Hotel - Mansion Hotel and Spa
  • Best Australian property within driving distance of the CBD – Mansion Hotel and Spa
  • Best Australian boutique property, villa or lodge – Lindenderry Red Hill
  • Best Australian property within driving distance of the CBD – Lindenderry Red Hill

The Lancemore Group is proud to announce that the Mansion Hotel ranked fifth on the impressive list of Australia’s best hotels. The Mansion Hotel also ranked sixth in the best Australian property in driving distance of the city.

Our second finalist for the Lancemore Group was the renowned Lindenderry at Red Hill. Lindenderry was ranked eighth in Best Australian Property within driving distance of the city and tenth for Best Australian Boutique property, villa or lodge.

So, if you’re looking for a day-trip out of Melbourne or a weekend away, the Mansion Hotel and Lindenderry come highly recommended by the Luxury Travel Magazine readership.

“Attaining prominent rankings in these awards is such an honour because the votes are coming from the people who are staying in our properties across Australia.  We’re smaller than a lot of the top ten mentions in these awards, and I believe that we have a very strong position at the boutique end of luxury accommodation options in Australia. We exist to give our customers the ultimate experience of luxury, so it’s such compliment to be formally appreciated and validated by our customers. Pleasing our customers is ultimate goal,” Says Julian Clark, Lancemore CEO.

Each of the four Lancemore Boutique Properties in Victoria has a unique offering in some of the state’s most picturesque corners. The Lancemore Group is consistently strengthening its credentials, recently acquiring Alamanda resort in Palm Cove. Alamanda is the fifth boutique hotel in the Lancemore suite, and is the first outside of Victoria. Alamanda is the only absolute beachfront accommodation available in the whole of Palm Cove, and coupled with tropical gardens and the multi-award winning day-spa, it too, could be a strong contender in the awards next year.

Philip Edwards wins Chef of the Year for the Linden Tree Restaurant at Lindenderry, Red Hill

Posted on Posted in Drink, Eat, General | 2 Comments

Philip Edwards’ star continues to rise with yet another culinary accolade – this time for Australian Conference Centre Chef of the Year, awarded by the International Association of Conference Centres (IACC).

Chef Philip Edwards

In a “Masterchef” style challenge, chefs were given only 30 minutes to create a single dish from a list of set ingredients. Judged to be the national winner, Philip will be flown to the Pacific Palms Resort in Los Angeles to represent Australia in the Global championship on March 19-21. He will also be representing the Linden Tree Restaurant where he is Head Chef. The Linden Tree is the in-house restaurant at the luxury boutique hotel, Lindenderry, in Red Hill.

Edwards has been in the role of Head Chef for just over 12 months and he has built an enviable reputation for the restaurant in that time. His philosophy is to use fresh and local produce where possible as the platform for his contemporary European menu. The current summer menu includes quality meats and seafood to create mouth-watering options including Pressed Rabbit Terrine, Crispy Soft Shell Crab, Berkshire Pork Belly, Flinders Island Lamb and Slow Roasted Duck. Vegetarian options include Caramelised Spring Onion Broth, Zucchini Flowers with Wood-Roasted Heirloom Tomato and Slow Cooked Eggplant Puree, and Main Ridge Goats Curd and Cheeses. Philip uses herbs grown in his kitchen garden and wild flowers that grow around the property on a daily basis.

Linden Tree Restaurant

He aspires to earn a Chef’s Hat at Linden Tree, and with the positive acclaim held by both the Lindenderry Hotel and Winery, he’s placed well to achieve this goal. The Winery at Lindenderry has just been rated five-star in James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2014.

Edwards says, “Mornington Peninsula is so beautiful, but more than that, it’s fertile and abundant – with fruit, vegetables and seafood, amongst other things – which makes designing seasonal menus so rewarding. I use local growers and producers whenever I can. It’s a magic little pocket of the world for food and wine.”

Philips’ early career includes experience at Portsea’s iconic Two Faces, and renowned French establishments Jacques Reymond, Est Est Est and Luxe in Melbourne. He then graduated to sous chef at Ondine, which was awarded Victoria’s best new restaurant within a year of opening.

He eventually left Melbourne for the glitz and glamour of the newly opened six-star Palazzo Versace in Queensland. From there he applied his Midas touch to the kitchen at Songbirds, winning both Queensland Restaurant of the Year and Chef of the Year, before returning to his Victorian roots as the head chef and Linden Tree.

Lindenderry at Red Hill – a Winning Combination

Five star winery, Five Star Hotel and Award-Winning Chef taking Restaurant to next level…
all in the heart of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula

Lindenderry Wines is thrilled to become a five star winery in the latest edition of James Halliday’s Wine Companion. The guide’s five-star classification recognises the wineries that have achieved excellence this year.  Only three Lindenderry wines were entered for tasting, and we are proud that all scored impressively – the 2011 Red Hill Estate Chardonnay achieved 95 points, while the cellar release 2008 Macedon Pinot Noir and 2008 Macedon Pinot Noir Reserve both scored 94 points.

Lidenderry Wines is a family owned wine operation and is part of The Lancemore Group, who also runs several boutique hotels and critically acclaimed restaurants around Australia. Lancemore Group CEO Julian Clark beamed that “everyone involved in Lindenderry Wines is incredibly proud, and genuinely thrilled to have been elevated to a five star winery in the Wine Companion 2014.  Wine is something that we are extremely passionate about at the Lancemore Group, and this ranking is recognition of the excellent work done by all associated with our winery, especially over the past few years since Barney Flanders took over the reins as winemaker.

It also is recognition of Lindenderry’s journey towards becoming the premier food and wine estate in Australia, located in the heart of the iconic Mornington Peninsula, which continues to grow from strength to strength as arguably the finest food and wine destination in Australia. Located in the heart of the Peninsula at Red Hill, Lindenderry is also currently undergoing a soft refurbishment to enhance the estate’s already excellent reputation as a boutique hotel. With the recruitment of Phillip Edwards as Executive Chef late last year, it is hoped that Lindenderry’s Restaurant, the Linden Tree will be able to achieve the treble with a Chef’s Hat.

When this refurbishment program is finished it is envisaged that Lindenderry will be the only property in Australia to house a five star boutique hotel, a five star rated winery and a critically acclaimed restaurant.  That is something that we at the Lancemore Group, and all of our wonderful customers, are very excited about.

or our second highlight event, we celebrated extravagance, circa 1920s at the Lindenderry Garden Party. The celebration could have rivaled those held by the great literary character Jay Gatsby. Guests and staff went to great effort to recreate an opulent and excessive afternoon inspired by New York’s 21 Club and the Gin Houses of the 1920s, but with a local Mornington Peninsula twist.

The Southern Cross Jazz Band entertained

A relaxed stand up affair, guests enjoyed G&Ts lake side, accompanied by a sprawling produce buffet & canapés that showed the best of our locally grown produce. The sunshine created a perfect backdrop for the party goers to enjoy lazy naps by the lake while the more active played games of bocce & croquet on the expansive lawns. A swing dance troop danced, while the Southern Cross Jazz Band played, lovers rowed across the lake and friends sprawled out on large rugs across the gardens.

Wine flowed and G&Ts were sipped at a frenetic pace (responsibly served of course) well into the evening, so it was lucky most had the good sense to book a room and stroll back and collapse, after a great day of sunshine, delightful company, entertainment, fine food and spectacular wines.

Here’s hoping we can do it all again next year.
